David Koch is a member of the Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra and Flint Symphony Orchestra. Before winning his current positions, he was the acting Principal Trumpet of the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra in Ontario, Canada for the 2017/2018 season.
David earned his Master of Music degree at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University in Montréal, Québec. While there he performed with l’Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, l’Orchestre Symphonique de Sherbrooke, Pronto Musica, and the Griffin Brass Band. While earning his Bachelor’s degree at Grand Valley State University, he won the 10th Annual CIMVO Trumpet Competition in L’Olleria, Spain and the 11th International Trumpet Seminar Competition at Grand Valley State University. He was also a finalist in the First International Trumpet Competition at the Meppener Blechbläsertage in Meppen, Germany; the First International Trumpet Conference in Łódź, Poland; and in the 10th International Trumpet Seminar Competition at GVSU.
In his spare time David enjoys working in his home studio creating and recording music, building and modifying trumpets in his workshop, photography, and doing DIY projects around the house. David is a performing artist for Van Laar Trumpets and Flugelhorns.
