Christina Rossetti's In the Bleak Midwinter is a poem by this English poet commonly performed as a Christmas carol. The poem was published, under the title A Christmas Carol, in the January 1872.
In 1906, the composer Gustav Holst composed a setting of Rossetti's words (titled Cranham) which is sung throughout the world. In 1909 Harold Darke also composed a melody widely performed by choirs, and was named the best Christmas carol in a poll of some of the world's leadingchoirmasters and choral experts in 2008.
Mid-winter is a contemporary melody by Darren Bartlett and Kelly Woods that works well with the original lyric and is now transcribed as an instrumental solo. It will be an enchanting addition to our popular seasonal music.
