Geoffrey Nobes

Geoffrey Nobes was raised in The Salvation Army; his father was Bandmaster of Portsmouth Citadel Band, and he learnt cornet from an early age. He studied music at Exeter University, where he was president and principal trumpet of the university orchestra, and after a year taking his PGCE at Reading University he was appointed Director of Music at St Edmund’s Catholic School, Portsmouth, where he taught for many years. His school choir made a series of concert tours to Malta, singing in cathedrals and churches and broadcasting on Maltese television and radio, as well as performing live on BBC national television from Portsmouth Catholic Cathedral. For the last several years of his teaching career he lectured in music at South Downs College and directed their brass ensemble.
Geoff succeeded his father as Bandmaster of Portsmouth Citadel Band and was involved in international tours and national radio and television broadcasts. He was conductor of the Cappella Singers, giving concerts in churches and cathedrals across the south of England and making a successful commercial recording of settings of the Eucharist for the Royal School of Church Music.
Geoff's published music with various companies includes vocal and choral music, children’s musicals and music for brass and wind band. Kevin Mayhew Publishers have produced a series of CDs of his sacred music, on which he directs the recording, and he has written works for the Central Band of the RAF, the Band of the RAF Regiment and the Band of HM Royal Marines, Collingwood.
