  • Anthony Galinier

    Back Anthony Galinier Born in 1984, Anthony began playing trumpet as a child, initially developing his musical skills at Conservatoires in Lorient, Angers and Aubervilliers-La Courneuve. In 2005 he entered the Lyons Conservatory, and studied in the classes of Thierry Caens and Christian Léger, where he obtained his Higher National Diploma in Music study in 2009. In 2013, he obtained his Master of chamber music. Anthony works with many symphony orchestras, including the Orchestre National d’Ile de France, Orchestre d’Auvergne, Orchestre National de Lyon, Orchestre de l’Opéra de Lyon, Orchestre Nationale du Capitole de Toulouse and Orchestre Nationale de l’Opéra de Paris. Anthony is keen to share his musical knowledge with others, and is a professor at the Conservatory of Limonest. In July 2010, he founded the Larmor-Plage Academy of Brass and Percussion. An ardent supporter of the French brass band movement, he has performed as a soloist with many bands, including the Paris Brass Band, Brass Band de la Musique de l’Air de Paris, the Brass Band Lorient, the Brass Band of Lyon, Brass Band Sagona and ExoBrass. Anthony has also given many masterclasses and performed as a soloist in Taiwan, Japan and The Netherlands, amongst other places. Anthony is currently a member of the Paris Brass Band and is Solo Horn of the Brass Band de la Musique de l’Air de Paris. In May 2014, Anthony released his first CD, 'The French Tenor Horn', and is accompanied by Lucie Chouvel piano, de l’Harmonie de la Musique de l’Air and Paris Brass Band. Anthony is the very first tenor horn soloist in France to record a full CD album. In October 2016, at the Royal Albert Hall in London, he released his second CD, 'The French Tenor Horn: Colors', which was recorded in the UK with Foden’s Band. The CD was nominated for the Solo CD of the year in the prestigious Brass Band World magazine and 4barsrest. In November 2018, at Montreux in Switzerland, for the Swiss National Championship, he released his third CD, Open Mind. This recording was named for the Solo CD of the month in March in Brass Band World magazine. Since 2019, Anthony has conducted the Brass Band des Gones and the Younth Symphonic Orchestra of Limonest. Anthony plays on a Besson Sovereign 180 tenor horn. He use the Wallace Mutes and Romera mouthpieces.

  • Jamie Hood

    Back Jamie Hood Jamie Hood is recognised across the US and Europe as an educator, soloist and conductor. Born in Scotland, Jamie is a product of the Salvation Army banding tradition and began cornet lessons with his father at the age of four. After moving to Alsace, France at 14, Jamie continued his education studying with Marc Ullirch, Philippe Litzler and James Gourlay.Jamie then studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama with Nigel Boddice and Roger Webster and during this time played with The Co-operative Funeralcare Band and The Kirkintilloch Band. After a period of two years he moved back to Alsace and began studies with the American trumpet teacher and composer Anthony Plog at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg, Germany and Pierre Thibaud in Paris, France. Jamie is a passionate educator and loves to teach. Jamie began teaching at the age of 16 in various music schools in France and since then has gone onto teach regular and give masterclasses in Germany, Switzerland and the United States. As a freelance trumpet player Jamie has worked with l’Orchestre de Chambre de Cannes in France, The Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra in Monte Carlo, The Houston Grand Opera in Texas and The Charlotte Symphony Orchestra. Jamie has had a lot of success conducting brass bands and working as a clinician with brass bands in Switzerland, France, and Scotland. Up until August 2014 Jamie was the Divisional Music Director for The Salvation Army in North and South Carolina. Jamie is now a freelance educator, soloist and conductor based in Basel, Switzerland and performs exclusively on a Besson Prestige BE2028 cornet.

  • Isobel Daws

    Back Isobel Daws Isobel began to play the cornet at the age of three under the joint direction of her father, David Daws and the late Maisie Ringham Wiggins MBE. Isobel moved onto the trombone in September 2008 and within six months she successfully auditioned and gained a scholarship to study trombone and piano at The Purcell School of Music. After eight years at the Purcell she moved to Chetham’s School to study A Levels. Whilst based in Manchester, Isobel was a member of one of the world’s most famous brass bands, The Fairey Band. Now back in London she is currently studying with Matt Gee at the Royal Academy of Music. Isobel was one of the five finalists in the BBC’s Young Musician of the Year 2014 Brass Category Final. In 2018 she was once again in the Brass Category Final, where she went on to be crowned as the winner. In 2017 Isobel was the winner of the BBC Young Brass Award playing live on Radio 2. Isobel is an alumni of the Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama, The National Children’s and Youth Brass Bands of Great Britain, as well as The National Children’s and Youth Orchestras of Great Britain. More recently, Isobel has played with the London Symphony Orchestra whilst on trial for principal trombone. She is also a member of the Bone-afide Trombone Quartet.

  • Luciano De Luca

    Back Luciano De Luca Luciano De Luca was born in Tivoli, near Rome. He is Principal Euphonium of the Italian Brass Band, and a member of the National Police Wind Orchestra of Italy. At the age of four, Luciano began studying euphonium first with his father, then continued with Matteo Caramaschi, euphonium player in the National Police wind orchestra of Italy. In 2006 he completed his euphonium studies with Steven Mead at the Higher Institute of Band studies in Trento, obtaining a higher degree. In 2007, he obtained his Academic Trombone Degree cum Laude at the St. Cecilia Conservatory of Music in Rome with Vincenzo Tiso as his teacher. In the same year he won the 'Via Vittoria Prix', awarded to the five best degree placements in Italy. Luciano has studied with Steven Mead, Robert Childs and David Childs, and has attended courses and masterclasses with Andrea Conti, Jaques Mauger, Jay Freidman, Charles Vernon, Anne Jelle Visser, Gianluca Gagliardi and Federico Ventura. He has worked with some of the world’s foremost conductors, including Riccardo Muti, Daniel Barenboim, Myung Whun Chung, Lorin Mazel, Riccardo Chailly, Zubin Mehta, Maurizio Billi, Markus Stenz, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Alessio Vlad, Asher Fish and Roberto Granata, and has toured England, France, Germany, Poland, Spain, Switzerland and China. Luciano has also won several orchestral auditions, including the Rome Opera Theatre Orchestra, the City of Rouen Orchestra in France, the Symphony Orchestra of Rome (Academy of Arts) and the Symphony Orchestra of the Rome Conservatory. At the age of 21, Luciano won the National Competition for Euphonium in the National Wind Orchestra of the Italian Police, where he frequently performs as a soloist. He has taught numerous masterclasses in cultural and musical institutions in Italy and abroad, including The Academy of International Euphonium in France. From 2016 he has been Professor of High Specialisation Courses in Euphonium in San Polo Dei Cavalieri, his country of origin.

  • Glenn Van Looy

    Back Glenn Van Looy Born in Bonheiden, Belgium, Glenn Van Looy has quickly established himself as one of the leading euphonium players of the 21st century. Glenn was introduced to playing at a young age by his father, Geert. Immediately falling in love with the euphonium, he continued study at the Secondary School of Art in Antwerp and the Lemmens Institute in Leuven, under the guidance of Nick Ost. His talents were soon recognised when, at the age of 11, he was recruited by Championship Section Festival Brass Band. At the tender age of 12 he began a ten-year tenure as solo euphonium of Brass Band Heist, a position he would hold until joining one of the top bands in Europe, Brass Band Buizingen, in 2013. Glenn’s incredible journey as a soloist has seen him win prestigious competitions in Europe and beyond. His contribution to band performances has been celebrated through soloist awards at the Flemish Open Brass Band Championship and twice at the World Music Contest in Kerkrade (Holland). He has also received awards from Great Britain’s National Brass Band Championships, the British Open Senior Cup and British Open Senior Trophy; all of which were performed with the Beaumaris Band (Wales). It is Glenn’s achievements away from brass band contesting that separates him from his contemporaries. He has won the solo championships of his native Belgium in every category, the European Solo Championships in Linz (Austria), been the youngest winner of the British Open Solo Championship and the sought after title of International Soloist of the Year at the Ern Keller Memorial in Sydney (Australia). He has also won other prestigious intonational titles including the Jeju International Brass Competition (South Korea), UFAM Contest in Paris (France), Lieksa International Euphonium Competition (Finland) and the Dexia Classic Competition (Belgium); after which Glenn performed the Cosma euphonium concerto with the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra. As a freelance musician Glenn has performed with a variety of ensembles including all the top brass bands in Belgium, the Leyland Band (England), Beaumaris Band (Wales), Co-operative Funeralcare Band (Scotland), Wallberg Band (Swizerland) and the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra. As a concert soloist he has performed with the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra, European Youth Brass Band , Yorkshire Building Society Band (England), Brighouse and Rastrick Band (England), Brass Band Willebroek (Belgium), Manger Musikklag (Norway), Royal Symphonic Band of the Belgian Guides, Royal Band of the Belgian Airforce and other Belgian fanfare and wind bands.   • Grant Jameson

    Back Grant Jameson Originally from Dublin, Ohio, Grant Jameson has spent extensive time both in the United States and the United Kingdom. He received his Bachelor of Music and Masters degrees from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD) in Cardiff (UK) where he studied with David Childs for six years. During his time in the UK, Grant immersed himself in the British brass band tradition and won many awards, including Best Soloist at the Welsh Open (2014). Grant has also performed as guest soloist with many of the UK's finest bands, including Cory, Grimethorpe Colliery, Brighouse & Rastrick and Foden's. Grant was also Principal Euphonium of Tredegar Town, Tongwynlais and Woodfalls bands, before joining the Flowers Band, with whom he won various contests and featured as a soloist, performing part of Sir Karl Jenkin's Euphonium Concerto, on the band's highly acclaimed CD release - 'Celebrate! - 50 years of Flowers'. Now residing in Texas, USA, he recently became Principal Euphonium of the Dallas Brass Band. Grant was the winner of the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble Competition (2013, 2014 and 2016) and gave several world premières with his award-winning euphonium quartet. In 2015 Grant won the prestigious RWCMD Concerto Competition and performed Joseph Horovitz's Euphonium Concerto with the RWCMD Orchestra. During the same year he appeared as soloist with the Central Band of the Royal Air Force, performing as a duet artist alongside Philip Cobb. In addition Grant also won the prestigious BBC Radio 2 Young Brass Award (2015), the first American to ever achieve this distinction. As a recording artist, Grant has released two solo albums: 'Genesis' (2015) and 'Versatility Reimagined' (2019). He's also been featured on television and radio with broadcasts by the BBC and S4C. In 2019 Grant appeared alongside fellow Besson Euphonium Artist, David Childs, performing duets at New York's Rainbow Lounge in a concert to honor Hollywood A-lister, Catherine Zeta-Jones CBE. Currently a DMA candidate and Teaching Fellow at the University of North Texas, Grant is busy as both performer and teacher, with a large private euphonium studio spanning the DFW metroplex.   • Sean A. Brown

    Back Sean A. Brown Sean A. Brown is a freelance hornist, teacher and composer. He has an active studio of 25 students (and counting), and teaches and plays all brass instruments proficiently. He is the founder of the Harbor Brass Choir & Penn Cove Brass Ensemble, which are tuition-based student brass ensembles for middle school and high school musicians, respectively. He also is the founder of the Whidbey Island Horn Club, a volunteer group of hornists that play together and to perform for the community. In addition, Sean is an active performer when opportunities arise, as he is the principal hornist of the Saratoga Orchestra of Whidbey Island. Sean received his Bachelor's Degree in Horn Performance from Central Washington University in 2010, studying horn with Jeff Snedeker, Wind Band with Larry Gookin, Orchestra with Nik Caoile, and Brass Pedagogy with Mark Babbitt. He played in the CWU Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Brass Choir, Peacock 5 Brass Quintet, and Horn Ensemble during his time there. He was active as a performer outside of CWU, becoming principal horn of the Mid-Columbia Symphony in 2009, and subbing regularly for the Yakima Symphony and the Wenatchee Valley Symphony. He received his Master's Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2014, studying horn with Greg Flint, Wind Band Conducting with John Climer, Orchestra with Jun Kim, and Chamber Music with Kevin Hartmann & Ted Soluri. He was active outside of the college, becoming the principal hornist of the The Festival City Symphony in 2014 (subbing since 2013), and frequently performing with the Wisconsin Wind Orchestra. Sean has also played with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra as a substitute.

  • Mark Frost

    Back Mark Frost Mark Frost started playing tenor trombone aged 11 having lessons from the Rotherham Music Service. He was asked to join the Rotherham Schools Band on bass trombone because he was the only person able to read bass clef. At age 13 he was asked to join the Yorkshire Schools Band and also Barnsley Chronicle Band, eventually successfully auditioning for the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain. Mark was invited to join Brighouse and Rastrick when he turned 16 and, two years later, Black Dyke Mills Band under David King, with which he won two European Championships and toured Japan and Sierra Leone! Initially, ‘Frosty’ studied with Hallé bass trombonist, Neville Roberts, at Salford University before transferring to the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. At around the same time he was approached by Howard Snell to join the Britannia Building Society Band (now Foden’s), with which he won the All England Masters twice and also the Swiss Open. In 2002 Mark became the bass trombone player with the Brass Band of Battle Creek and in 2003 he was invited to join Grimethorpe for its tour of the USA, culminating in a concert in Carnegie Hall. His brass band days paved the way for a ‘pro’ music career spanning the genres of brass band, big band, orchestras and session work. The list is impressive: Guy Barker Orchestra, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra, Peter Gabriel New Blood Orchestra, Curtis Stigers, Georgie Fame, Al Martino, Jack Jones, Gladys Knight, Paloma Faith, Quincy Jones, Jamie Cullum, Gary Barlow even Frank Sinatra at the London Palladium via a big screen! Mark has equally impressive orchestral credentials having played for all the BBC Orchestras, London Symphony, London Philharmonic and Royal Philharmonic Orchestras, as well as the Hallé, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and Opera North. He can also be heard on the soundtracks to 'Inception', 'Prometheus', 'Captain America' and 'Thunderbirds'. Mark was bass trombone tutor at Salford University and also visiting tutor of trombone at the RNCM, where he gave the world premiere of ‘Spooks’ an Outrage for bass trombone written for him by Elgar Howarth.

  • Gary Fountain

    Back Gary Fountain Gary Fountain started playing cornet at the age of 10, and it was through attending a number of Salvation Army music schools that his love for music making developed. He was a member of both the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain (NYBBGB) and a founder member of The Young Ambassadors Brass Band of Great Britain. In 1990 Gary joined the world renowned International Staff Band on solo cornet, sitting next to David Daws for several years. After some time out of the band, Gary rejoined in 2005 as the band's soprano cornet player. He also sat in the soprano cornet seat for the GUS Band for over a decade, and has recorded several solos on CD for both bands. Gary has been principal cornet of the Kettering Citadel Band of The Salvation Army for many years. In addition, Gary has guested with several of the premier bands in the UK, including Black Dyke, Cory, Fairey's and Foden's. In his professional life, Gary has been employed by Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Trust as a brass instrumental teacher, conductor and brass project facilitator for the last 15 years, where he teaches beginners up to diploma students, preparing them for entry to music college. He is a guest examiner/adjudicator for end of year recitals at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire of Music. Gary is experienced in face-to-face and zoom delivery of teaching lessons. Gary's sons, James and Thomas, have both gone on to be professional trumpet players and took lessons with Gary from when they were beginners. James was previous principal trumpet of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of just 20 and is now principal with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. He is also a studio recording artist and previous principal cornet of the NYBBGB, Grimethorpe Colliery and GUS Bands. Thomas has recently gained his Masters in trumpet performance at the Royal College of Music, attaining Distinction. He was also previously principal cornet of the NYBBGB and is the present principal cornet of GUS Band. Both have been winners of the Radio 2 Young Brass Player of the Year.   • Kana Madarame

    Back Kana Madarame Kana Madarame, born in Mito, Ibaraki, Japan holds an undergraduate degree from Tokyo Gakugei Univrsity and a graduate degree from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts. Her graduate thesis there was entitled 'Advancement of Women Brass Performers in Japan.' Active as both a performer and teacher, Kana performs as the Principal Cornet of the Japan Ladies’ Brass and Tokyo Brass Society. Kana came second in the 2003 International Women’s Brass Conference Competition in Illinois. She gives solo recitals all over Japan, and has released three solo CDs entitled 'Vocalise', 'Fantaisie', and 'Miyabi'. They are available for streaming globally. Recently, Kana set up Project KANA, which aims to build a bridge between different cultures. In recent years, she has toured Europe, Malaysia and Texas with great success. Kana’s teaching career goes further than simply teaching. She is active as a band director and conductor, as well as a trumpet teacher. Currently she is a member of the faculty at Tokyo Gakugei University, Senzoku Gakuen College of Music, Shobi Music College, and Bunka Gakuen University High School in Tokyo. She is a board member of the International Women’s Brass Conference. Furthermore, she was recently appointed as an ambassador for her hometown of Mito City.
