    Back Joshua Tyler Jameson Joshua Tyler Jameson was born and raised in Columbus Ohio, where he attended The Ohio State University, earning his BM in Trombone Performance and Music Composition. He has played in a number of ensembles throughout the Columbus area, including the Central Ohio Brass Band, Chapel Brass, and as a founding member of the Dublin Silver Band where he's played tenor and bass trombone, baritone and euphonium. Most recently, he has become a member of the 338th United States Army Band, also based in Columbus. Joshua's passion for music goes beyond just playing his trombone, as he is also a decorated composer and arranger. He is a four-time recipient of the US Open's 'Best New Composition or Arrangement Prize', and his works have been performed throughout the United States and Great Britain. Ensembles that have performed his works include River City Brass Band, Cory Band, Tredegar Town Band, The National Youth Brass Band of America, the Paducah and Elizabethtown Symphony Orchestras, the Glassmen Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps, the Ohio State University Athletic Band, various United States Army ensembles, and of course, Dublin Silver Band.

    Richard Marshall has been described as “the most outstanding cornet player England has ever produced.” Richard is currently Principal Cornet of the Black Dyke Band, having formerly held the same position at Grimethorpe Colliery. He has six solo recordings to his name. Back Richard Marshall Quoted at the Black Dyke Brass Arts Festival, the internationally acclaimed maestro Elgar Howarth described Richard Marshall as “the most outstanding cornet player England has ever produced.” Richard is currently Principal Cornet of the world famous Black Dyke Band, a position that is heralded as the “hottest seat in banding.” Previously Principal Cornet for ten years with the Grimethorpe Colliery Band, Richard fulfilled his childhood ambition and followed in the footsteps of some of his cornet heroes and moved to the Queensbury based band in January 2006. As a respected and devoted teacher, Richard is a cornet tutor at the Royal Northern College of Music and Birmingham Conservatoire. He is a regular tutor on the International Brass Band Summer School, the National Children’s Brass Band of Great Britain and the Yorkshire Youth Brass Band. Richard has released to date six solo recordings: 'The Debutante' (1999), 'Blaze' (2005), 'Eminence' (2007), 'The Cornet Heritage Collection Volume 1' (2010) and 'Volume 2' (2013), and 'Sonatina' (2020) all of which have been received with world-wide acclaim, with 'Blaze' and 'Eminence' being awarded the title Solo CD of the Year.     Back Steve Kellner The son of Salvation Army officer parents, Dr. Steve Kellner received nearly all of his early musical training in Salvation Army (SA) brass bands. He has served as principal euphonium and soloist with several SA bands and performed on numerous recordings, including as a soloist on the recordings 'Songs of the States' and 'Let Us Adore Him' with the National Capital Band, and 'Live in England' and 'Songs of War and Peace' with the Southern Staff Band. In addition to leading the National Capital Band, Steve is the music education director for The Salvation Army’s Potomac Division. Steve served for nearly 25 years in U.S. military bands, including 11 years as principal euphonium of the U.S. Marine Band (The President’s Own) in Washington, D.C. In addition to hundreds of performances with the band at The White House and in support of the President of The United States, he was a soloist on several of the band's national concert tours, summer series concerts, and chamber series concerts, and served as principal euphonium on the band's tours of Norway, England, the Soviet Union, and Switzerland. He also performed on 15 Marine Band recordings and was a soloist on the band's recording 'Charles Ives's America'. Steve holds a bachelor’s degree (cum laude) from the University of Maryland, and master’s and doctoral degrees from The Catholic University of America, all in trombone performance. His euphonium and trombone teachers have included Mark Mordue, Michael Moore, James Kraft, Milt Stevens, Matthew Guilford, and David Fedderly. He previously served on the adjunct faculty of the University of Maryland and The Peabody Conservatory, and is music director of The Dominion Brass, a professional symphonic brass ensemble. In addition to his conducting and playing activities, Steve is a prolific composer of brass band music, having published pieces in The Salvation Army’s General Series, Triumph Series, American Festival Series, American Band Journal, Southern Series, and American Instrumental Ensemble Series. Steve resides in Annapolis, Maryland with his wife of 45 years, Janine, and is the proud father of Jacqui, Paul, and Jessi, and doting grandfather of Avery, Owen, Everett, Harper, Sadie, June, Dean, Marin and Ellis.

    Back Harold Burgmayer Harold Burgmayer served as music director and composer-in-residence for The Salvation Army’s Chicago Staff Band from 2015 until his retirement in 2022, producing over 40 works. Previously Harold gave leadership and contributed arrangements for the Pendel Brass (based in Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware) for 34 years. This group recorded 16 albums and traveled to South America, Canada, the Caribbean, Scandinavia, South Africa and throughout the US, including participation in the Rose Parade. During these years, Harold also wrote for the New York Staff Band and its American Band Journal. Harold has exhibited a wide compositional versatility, addressing a variety of musical styles in conducting and writing for the Atlantic, Chesapeake, Chicago, Five Lakes, Imperial, and Lancaster brass bands, as well as the Salvation Army’s Canadian Staff Band, International Staff Band, Japan Staff Band and Melbourne Staff Band. Harold earned master's and doctoral degrees in music composition from Temple University, and has produced over 400 arrangements and compositions ranging from simple children’s songs to a symphony for full orchestra. Over 125 of these settings are in print, with more recorded in many parts of the world. While in Chicago, Harold managed the production of The Salvation Army’s Hallelujah Choruses and American Festival Series publications. Harold has taught as an adjunct instructor, as well as conducted and arranged for the wind ensemble at Cairns University (outside Philadelphia). Harold, along with his wife Priscilla, have appeared as guest clinicians with an emphasis given to the training of young singers and instrumentalists. Numerous articles and instructional materials, including the 'Music Arts Proficiency' (M.A.P.) curriculum; the book 'The Beat Goes On! – Music as a Corps Ministry'; and the 'Music Leadership Academy – Basic Conducting' video series reflect the intent to equip emerging music leaders. Much of this instruction evolved over full summers of music camps across the US and Canada, but also internationally as musical guests in Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, the Caribbean, Congo, Nigeria, South Africa, and South Korea. In 2023, Harold was inducted into the Star Lake Music Camp Hall of Fame, having served on that faculty since 1978. In retirement, Harold continues an active arranging and composing schedule. He particularly enjoys coaching emerging composers from Africa, Canada, Europe, and the US through online instruction.

    Back Phil Lawrence Phil Lawrence was a British composer and arranger at home in a wide variety of musical styles and idioms. He started composing at a young age and studied composition with James Eastham and Dr. Edward Ho. His diverse work involved composing horn lines for 'The Sugar Babes' on the track 'Get Sexy', and a number feature films including two episodes of 'Roary The Racing Car' with the Fairey Band, rescoring the '1921 Nosferatu', and in May 2012 a première at Cannes where he scored the re-make of the 'The Magnificent Seven', later re-named 'The Magnificent Eleven', which starred Robert Vaughn (original cast member of the original seven) and directed by Irvine Welsh, author of 'Trainspotting'. He composed music for TV adverts including The Times, Ibuleve, Nike, The Sunday Times, Smarties, The Mirror, Guiness, The Sun, Post Office, and The News Of The World. His trumpet concerto 'Blaze' was premièred at the Bridgewater Hall to full capacity by Richard Marshall and Grimethorpe Colliery Band. It was also performed in the USA at the International Trumpet Guild, with James Fountain as soloist. He would later receive a nomination from the British Academy of Composers in conjunction with BBC Radio 3. In addition Phil was commissioned by the RAF in 2018 for its centenary concert at the Albert Hall to a capacity of 5,400. Phil played with British Rail Edge Hill Band Liverpool under Bob Dean, and attending the RNCM joined Manchester CWS Band where he played under Rex Mortimer, Maurice Handford, Jim Scott and Frank Renton. In 2005 he was appointed composer in residence with the Fairy Band, culminating in an album of his works and arrangements with World of Brass entitled 'It's Not Unusual', conducted by Frank Renton. As a trumpet player, he performed with many of the finest orchestras in the UK, including the Hallé, BBC Philharmonic, Opera North, Liverpool Philharmonic and Royal Opera. In 1982 he moved to London and worked with the Royal Opera for four years, before work presented itself with the Philharmonia, BBC Symphony, London Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, and London Symphony Orchestras, as well as in west end and film sessions. At this time he started to compose more seriously, having played with greats such as Philip Jones, John Wilbraham, Derek Watkins, Maurice Murphy, Micheal Laird, John Wallace, Jim Watson and David Mason. Phil also held the position of guest conductor with the New London Symphony Orchestra, and gave concerts at St Martin in The Fields and St John's Smith Square. Phil sadly passed after a short battle with cancer in June 2025.

The five finalists will also have ‘follow-the-score’ videos of their pieces produced using NotePerformer and shared on YouTube and BrookWright's social media pages.     Back Andy Wareham Andy Wareham (B. 1994) is a composer, conductor, brass tutor and musicologist hailing from Southampton, England. His musical journey began at the age of six under the tuition of Lesley Milam and ever since then he has aspired to become an accomplished music professional. He has become a keen musicologist, conductor and composer within the British brass band movement. Andy has a background as an experienced jazz trumpet player and brass band cornetist and has performed in a number of high profile locations. These include the Montreux Jazz Festival, The Concorde Club Southampton, Principality Stadium, Wales Millennium Centre, Symphony Hall Birmingham, Barbican Centre, Branwyn Hall and the Royal Albert Hall. He has received a number of awards for his performance, including a special honour from Wynton Marsalis following a performance at the Barbican Centre in London during the ‘Essentially Ellington’ competition, hosted by Jazz at Lincoln Center. As a published composer with a range of publishing houses, Andy has won a number of awards for his music. These include the Vivendi Composition Award, The Cory Band Composition Competition 2017, A4 Brass Quartet’s Composition Competition 2019, The British Trombone Society Composers’ Competition 2020, the British Bandsman March Contest 2023, the St. David’s Hall 40th anniversary Fanfare Competition and the Eisteddfod Môn (Anglesey Eisteddfod) March Composition Competition. Andy also achieved the second prize in the EBBA European Composers Competition 2022 with his large scale work “Machiavelli: Ruminations on ‘The Prince’” receiving a world premiere by the Grimethorpe Colliery Band. His music has been featured on BBC television and radio as well as at major festivals and brass band contests, including the Brass in Concert Championships, the RNCM Festival of Brass and the Welsh Proms. From 2018 - 2021, Andy proudly held the position of ‘Young Composer in Residence’ with the world famous Black Dyke Band and worked under the guidance and mentorship of Black Dyke’s acclaimed Composer in Association, Professor Philip Wilby. He also currently holds a position as Composer in Association with the Manchester based ‘Northern Quarters Brass Quartet’, made up of principal musicians from some of the UK’s leading brass bands (Brighouse & Rastrick, Black Dyke and the WFEL Fairey Band). As a conductor, Andy is in demand. He has previously held positions and guest directed a wide variety of ensembles including brass bands, choirs, concert bands, big bands and orchestras in the UK. His conducting has also seen him travel internationally to work with ensembles in mainland Europe. In 2025, Andy was one of three people selected to study as an inaugural conducting delegate with the Elgar International Brass Band Summer School. After graduating from Cardiff University as a Bachelor of Music (Hons) in 2016, Andy went on to study as a Master of Music (Hons) at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. He was accepted as the first student in the history of the conservatoire to study as a Brass Band Conducting specialist and studied under the guidance of renowned conductor, adjudicator and Euphonium virtuoso, Dr Robert Childs where he achieved a first class honours in conducting performance and completed a 10,000 word dissertation on the history of the brass band musical director. Following two years of co-conducting the RWCMD Brass Band, he graduated in July 2018 and directed the band one final time at his own graduation ceremony.

    Jonathan Pippen is constantly in demand as a soloist and has performed with many of the UK's finest orchestras and brass bands, including Grimethorpe Colliery and Brighouse & Rastrick Bands, RPCO, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Opera North and English National Opera. Back Jonathan Pippen Jonathan Pippen was given the opportunity to learn the trombone in school at age 7 and immediately found himself immersed in the Gwent Music Support Service and the South Wales Brass Band scene. By age 15 he was principal trombone of the BTM Band and, shortly afterwards, the National Youth Orchestra and Brass Band of Wales. In 1997 Jonathan won a foundation scholarship to study at the Royal College Music with Arthur Wilson, and in the same year was appointed as principal trombone of the Brighouse and Rastrick Band. He subsequently made a transfer to the Royal Northern College of Music to continue his studies and while in his 3rd year was appointed principal trombone with the Remix Ensemble Casa da Musica, where he remained until 2003. It was here that Jonathan was given his first opportunity to hold the baton. On returning to the UK to pursue a freelance career Jonathan worked as a guest principal trombone with most UK orchestras including the Hallé, Philharmoina, English National Opera and BBC National Orchestra of Wales. He also regularly deputised with Grimethorpe Colliery Band and in 2007 made a fleeting return to Brighouse and Rastrick. In September 2007 Jonathan joined the Central Band of the Royal Air Force, where he played and conducted until April 2015. Jonathan continued to work as often as he could outside the RAF, deputising with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Opera North, English National Opera and was the Musical Director of the Staines Band. He was also principal trombone of the Desford Colliery Band. Since re-joining the freelance music scene he has worked with the RPO, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Opera, Royal Northern Sinfonia, Bergen Philharmonic, The Madness, Steve Hackett, Max Boyce, and on the west end show 'Charlie and the Chocolate factory'. Just before the pandemic, Jonathan was about to embark on a UK tour with The Who as bass trombone with the Heart of England Orchestra. Jonathan has conducted the English Session Orchestra, library sessions for West One Music and Sony, a tour to Vietnam with the Desford Colliery Band and was assistant Musical Director and 1st trombone/euphonium for the Cameron Macintosh production of Half a Sixpence in London’s West End 2016/17. As a soloist Jonathan has been featured on the BBC 'Listen to the Band' programme no less than 6 times, was soloist on the 2015 Gavin Higgins and Tredegar Band award-winning album 'Dark Artieies' and had been guest soloist with the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Wales and at the Lithuanian National Band Championships. Jonathan’s Berio 'Sequenza V' is featured on the Royal Air Force Music album 'Going Solo'. Jonathan is currently the Musical Director of the Raunds Temprance Band, Professor of trombone at the London College of Music, Head of Trombone Studies for the British Army (London District) and is an examiner for the online music exam board 'MTB'. He is also resident reviewer for 4barsrest.com where he has a regular feature entitled 'Brass Things' and from July to September 2021 can be seen as assistant conductor and heard playing bass trombone and tuba at the Regent Park Open Air Theatre production of Carousel.

Born in Scotland, Jamie is a product of the Salvation Army banding tradition and began cornet lessons with his father at the age of four. After moving to Alsace, France at 14, Jamie continued his education studying with Marc Ullirch, Philippe Litzler and James Gourlay.Jamie then studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama with Nigel Boddice and Roger Webster and during this time played with The Co-operative Funeralcare Band and The Kirkintilloch Band. After a period of two years he moved back to Alsace and began studies with the American trumpet teacher and composer Anthony Plog at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg, Germany and Pierre Thibaud in Paris, France. Jamie is a passionate educator and loves to teach. Jamie began teaching at the age of 16 in various music schools in France and since then has gone onto teach regular and give masterclasses in Germany, Switzerland and the United States. As a freelance trumpet player Jamie has worked with l’Orchestre de Chambre de Cannes in France, The Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra in Monte Carlo, The Houston Grand Opera in Texas and The Charlotte Symphony Orchestra. Jamie has had a lot of success conducting brass bands and working as a clinician with brass bands in Switzerland, France, and Scotland. Up until August 2014 Jamie was the Divisional Music Director for The Salvation Army in North and South Carolina. Jamie is now a freelance educator, soloist and conductor based in Basel, Switzerland and performs exclusively on a Besson Prestige BE2028 cornet.

Whether composing, arranging, conducting or typesetting, his abilities and talents encompass a large range of subjects and disciplines. Rob has produced hundreds of pieces for a large variety of ensembles, which have been performed the world over. Brought up playing in brass bands, he studied composition at college with Ian Schofield and at University with Prof. Philip Wilby, Dr. Michael Spencer and Dr. Emily Howard. During his time at the latter, a fortuitous conversation led to him working as a music advisor to some of the best conductors and brass bands in the world. Rob’s music can be found on streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music and YouTube, as well as recordings for CDs, such as his composition ‘… and has forgotten the gift’, selected and recorded by the A4 Brass Quartet for their debut CD 'Mists of the Mountains'. As a performer, Rob has played across Europe with a multitude of groups and ensembles: from brass bands to symphony orchestras, military bands to pit orchestras, at venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, RMA Sandhurst and the Menin Gate. He has had the honour to perform to various members of the Royal Family, has performed live on BBC radio and has even appeared in a music video. Although he started his musical life on cornet (and piano), it is now normal to find Rob at the back of an ensemble in the percussion section.

    Back Steven Ponsford Steven was born in 1983 in Plymouth, UK into a Salvation Army family. He started learning cornet at age eight and later percussion. By the time he was 15, he was writing and scoring pieces for small ensembles, summer schools and the youth band of which he was a member. During his time in Plymouth Congress Hall Band he developed his writing skills, which the band would feature regularly on their programmes. In 2003 the SA published his first piece ('Praise Party!') since when many others have appeared in their journals. 'Turris Fortissima' was a significant work from Steven, which was written for Enfield Citadel Band's USA tour in 2007. It received international acclaim and was subsequently featured by Cory Band at the European Brass Band Championships. Steven continues to write and receive commissions from leading bands all over the world, and in recent years a number of his works, in particular 'Music of a legacy' and 'The day of the Lord', have been chosen as both set and own-choice test pieces at a number of national contests. In 2022 he co-produced and wrote the majority of arrangements for the popular 'All Tuned Up' publication in partnership with Brookwright Music, a music book/resource providing a collection of 120 famous tunes arranged for flexible brass and woodwind ensembles. In recent years, Steven has been a guest at various residential music camps, in the UK and US. He also currently plays in the Plymouth City Brass Band where he is the Deputy Musical Director. He also writes and arranges music for the band, and its soloists on a regular basis.

    Back Jonathan Corry Dr. Jonathan Corry is a freelance trumpet player, adjudicator, conductor and arranger based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. In 2020 he returned to Ireland from Chicago where he was Director of Music for The Salvation Army. Currently he is Musical Director of the 1st Old Boys Brass Band. After initial lessons from his father, he studied with Paul Young and was Principal Trumpet in the Belfast, Ulster & National (GB) Youth Orchestras. At the Royal Northern College of Music he studied trumpet with John Miller, John Dickinson and David Staff, received his Masters in conducting after study with James Gourlay, and was awarded his Ph.D in 2016 from the University of Salford. Dr. Corry has performed as a concerto soloist with the Ulster Orchestra, Camerata Ireland and Nottingham Chamber Orchestras playing Haydn, Hummel and JS Bach Brandenburg Concerto no. 2 respectively. He was a finalist in the 2005 European Conductors Competition and regularly conducts bands throughout Europe and North America. Jonathan was Bandmaster of Enfield Citadel SA Band for eight years, making several recordings, commissioning works by leading wind/brass composers and featuring world class soloists. His work within music education includes rehearsal conductor for the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland, the European Youth Brass Band, various local education authorities and a period as Bandmaster, Head of Brass and Assistant Housemaster at Pangbourne College. In 2024 Jonathan conducted and collaborated with Brighouse & Rastrick Band on a pace setting album of music by composer Dorothy Gates featuring trombone soloist Isobel Daws. As an arranger, Jonathan’s music has been performed and recorded by many music groups and soloists across the world - his passion is classical and choral transcriptions for brass. In 2019 Jonathan was part of the development of the new 800 DLX Cornet from Getzen Musical Instruments.

    Sean A. Brown is a freelance hornist, teacher and composer, having performed with numerous groups such as the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Yakima Symphony and the Wenatchee Valley Symphony. Back Sean A. Brown Sean A. Brown is a freelance hornist, teacher and composer. He has an active studio of 25 students (and counting), and teaches and plays all brass instruments proficiently. He is the founder of the Harbor Brass Choir & Penn Cove Brass Ensemble, which are tuition-based student brass ensembles for middle school and high school musicians, respectively. He also is the founder of the Whidbey Island Horn Club, a volunteer group of hornists that play together and to perform for the community. In addition, Sean is an active performer when opportunities arise, as he is the principal hornist of the Saratoga Orchestra of Whidbey Island. Sean received his Bachelor's Degree in Horn Performance from Central Washington University in 2010, studying horn with Jeff Snedeker, Wind Band with Larry Gookin, Orchestra with Nik Caoile, and Brass Pedagogy with Mark Babbitt. He played in the CWU Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Brass Choir, Peacock 5 Brass Quintet, and Horn Ensemble during his time there. He was active as a performer outside of CWU, becoming principal horn of the Mid-Columbia Symphony in 2009, and subbing regularly for the Yakima Symphony and the Wenatchee Valley Symphony. He received his Master's Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2014, studying horn with Greg Flint, Wind Band Conducting with John Climer, Orchestra with Jun Kim, and Chamber Music with Kevin Hartmann & Ted Soluri. He was active outside of the college, becoming the principal hornist of the The Festival City Symphony in 2014 (subbing since 2013), and frequently performing with the Wisconsin Wind Orchestra. Sean has also played with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra as a substitute.

    Anthony Galinier is a renowned tenor horn soloist currently playing with the Paris Brass Band and Brass Band de la Musique de l’Air de Paris. His three solo CDs have won prestigious awards and he is in regularly in demand as a soloist around the world. Back Anthony Galinier Born in 1984, Anthony began playing trumpet as a child, initially developing his musical skills at Conservatoires in Lorient, Angers and Aubervilliers-La Courneuve. In 2005 he entered the Lyons Conservatory, and studied in the classes of Thierry Caens and Christian Léger, where he obtained his Higher National Diploma in Music study in 2009. In 2013, he obtained his Master of chamber music. Anthony works with many symphony orchestras, including the Orchestre National d’Ile de France, Orchestre d’Auvergne, Orchestre National de Lyon, Orchestre de l’Opéra de Lyon, Orchestre Nationale du Capitole de Toulouse and Orchestre Nationale de l’Opéra de Paris. Anthony is keen to share his musical knowledge with others, and is a professor at the Conservatory of Limonest. In July 2010, he founded the Larmor-Plage Academy of Brass and Percussion. An ardent supporter of the French brass band movement, he has performed as a soloist with many bands, including the Paris Brass Band, Brass Band de la Musique de l’Air de Paris, the Brass Band Lorient, the Brass Band of Lyon, Brass Band Sagona and ExoBrass. Anthony has also given many masterclasses and performed as a soloist in Taiwan, Japan and The Netherlands, amongst other places. Anthony is currently a member of the Paris Brass Band and is Solo Horn of the Brass Band de la Musique de l’Air de Paris. In May 2014, Anthony released his first CD, 'The French Tenor Horn', and is accompanied by Lucie Chouvel piano, de l’Harmonie de la Musique de l’Air and Paris Brass Band. Anthony is the very first tenor horn soloist in France to record a full CD album. In October 2016, at the Royal Albert Hall in London, he released his second CD, 'The French Tenor Horn: Colors', which was recorded in the UK with Foden’s Band. The CD was nominated for the Solo CD of the year in the prestigious Brass Band World magazine and 4barsrest. In November 2018, at Montreux in Switzerland, for the Swiss National Championship, he released his third CD, Open Mind. This recording was named for the Solo CD of the month in March in Brass Band World magazine. Since 2019, Anthony has conducted the Brass Band des Gones and the Younth Symphonic Orchestra of Limonest. Anthony plays on a Besson Sovereign 180 tenor horn. He use the Wallace Mutes and Romera mouthpieces.

    Back David Robb David Robb is a composer/arranger, conductor and teacher living in the Scottish Borders. He studied composition at Surrey University, where he was tutored by Derek Bourgeois, and also studied trumpet at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. After graduating, David became a Brass Instrumental Instructor for East Lothian Council; a role which he continues to enjoy with over 30 years of service. David has played cornet in all of the top Scottish brass bands and trumpet in various orchestras. As a conductor, he has been musical director and bandmaster of various brass bands in the Central Scotland and Scottish Borders areas. He is also tutor/director of various youth and junior bands. David has received commissions to compose and arrange music for bands at all levels.

  • Isobel Daws

    Isobel Daws was the winner of the 2017 BBC Radio 2 Young Brass Award and BBC’s Young Musician of the Year 2018 Brass Final, and the 'Young Talents Tenor' and ALIUD special prize at the Swisstbone competition. She has also played with the London Symphony Orchestra. Back Isobel Daws Isobel began to play the cornet at the age of three under the joint direction of her father, David Daws and the late Maisie Ringham Wiggins MBE. Isobel moved onto the trombone in September 2008 and within six months she successfully auditioned and gained a scholarship to study trombone and piano at The Purcell School of Music. After eight years at the Purcell she moved to Chetham’s School to study A Levels. Whilst based in Manchester, Isobel was a member of one of the world’s most famous brass bands, The Fairey Band. Now back in London she is currently studying with Matt Gee at the Royal Academy of Music. Isobel was one of the five finalists in the BBC’s Young Musician of the Year 2014 Brass Category Final. In 2018 she was once again in the Brass Category Final, where she went on to be crowned as the winner. In 2017 Isobel was the winner of the BBC Young Brass Award playing live on Radio 2. Isobel is an alumni of the Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama, The National Children’s and Youth Brass Bands of Great Britain, as well as The National Children’s and Youth Orchestras of Great Britain. More recently, Isobel has played with the London Symphony Orchestra whilst on trial for principal trombone. She is also a member of the Bone-afide Trombone Quartet.

    Back Andrew Wainwright Andrew Wainwright is a highly respected composer, arranger, designer and journalist. An award-winning composer, his music is performed internationally by brass bands, orchestras, wind bands and choirs. With over two decades' experience as a graphic designer, he has worked with numerous high profile ensembles, composers and soloists. As a journalist he has been Editor of British Bandsman (2018 - 2019) and SA Bandsman (2011 - 2018), and Brass Band Bridge magazine (2020 - 2024). He also regularly contributes to the major brass band publications. In July 2023 Andrew was the winner of the Grimethorpe Colliery Band's 1st Annual Composition Competition with his piece 'Fallen Souls'. The competition received 105 entries from around the world. In 2022 Andrew won the inaugural River City Brass Composition Competition with his work 'Resilience', coming out on top of 67 entries from 14 different countries. In 2018 he was awarded 1st place in the RWCMD Cory Band Composition Competition with his piece 'The Spirit of St. Louis', an international contest held by the world's No. 1 ranked brass band. In 2017 his composition, 'Fearless', was voted as the winner of the New York Staff Band's inaugural international composers' competition. In the same year he was commissioned to write two pieces by New York Philharmonic Brass for its annual Holiday Brass concert at David Geffen Hall, hosted by Philip Smith and featuring guest soloist Doc Severinsen. Andrew's music featured three consecutive years in this concert series. In 2014 his composition, 'The Smoke that Thunders', was one of five finalists in the Salford International Composers' Competition. Andrew first received acclaim for his compositional skills when in 1997 he came runner-up in television's Performance, The Arts Channel's Young Composer of the Year for Great Britain. Andrew's music has been commissioned, performed and recorded throughout the world by bands such as Black Dyke, Canadian Staff, Chicago Staff, Cory, Foden's, Fairey's, Grimethorpe Colliery, the International Staff, Melbourne Staff, New York Staff, GUS and Brass Band Aid Celebrity Band; orchestras such as the Elgin Symphony and National Composers Orchestra (USA); and choirs such as the Elgin Master Chorale, Halifax Choral Society, Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus, Exeter Festival Chorus, The International Staff Songsters, and St Charles Singers. Andrew's music is regularly selected for brass band contests around the world. Variations on Was Lebet has been chosen as the set-piece for the Swiss Nationals - Second Division (2022), Dutch Nationals - Second Division (2024) and UK Regionals Section 1 (2026); Metamorphosis on Finlandia for the Belgian Nationals - Second Division (2025) and Rhapsody on St Francis for the Queensland State Championships in Australia (2023). In addition to BrookWright, where most of his work is now published, Andrew has music published by Boosey & Hawkes, Faber, Prima Vista Musikk, Lake Music and SP&S. Andrew's music features on over 20 commercial recordings. In November 2012, a CD of his music was released by Virtuosi GUS Band, featuring Faryl Smith. Entitled 'Christmas Fantasia - The Music of Andrew Wainwright', it was launched on the Doyen label. His arrangements of several of Karl Jenkins' major works have garnered critical acclaim, including the hour-long 'The Armed Man - A Mass for Peace', which Andrew arranged for brass band, choir and organ. It has been performed by numerous groups around the world and a CD was produced of the work in May 2007, followed by a DVD by Black Dyke Band in 2010 of a live performance at Birmingham Symphony Hall. More recently, Andrew's arrangement of Jenkins' 'Stabat Mater' was premièred by Cory Band at the European Brass Band Championships in Montreux, Switzerland and was performed by the band at Symphony Hall, Birmingham and broadcast on BBC Radio 2. In November 2014, Grimethorpe Colliery Band premièred Andrew's arrangement of Jenkins' 'Gloria' at the Brass in Concert Gala Concert at The Sage Gateshead. In 2015, Andrew's composition, 'Illuminate', was performed at London's O2 Arena by the Chicago Staff Band as part of The Salvation Army's Boundless International Congress. In March 2012, Andrew was privileged to be a guest of the New York Staff Band for its 125th Anniversary weekend and was commissioned to write a piece for the occasion, 'Fanfare & Theme on Before the Throne'. Andrew conducted the combined bands of the New York Staff and Future All Stars in the premiere performance. As a performer, conductor and tutor, Andrew has completed tours to Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, Jamaica, Kenya, Mexico, Norway, Portugal, Switzerland, the USA and Zambia. He has played with a number of musical groups including Brass Band Aid Celebrity Band, the Chicago Staff Band, Hendon Band, USA Southern Staff Band and Virtuosi GUS Band, although the highlight of his playing career was performing with World and European Champions, Cory Band, at the Royal Albert Hall. Andrew features as a soloist on Kettering Citadel Band's CD That's the Spirit. Andrew has been responsible for the organisation of a number of charity concerts, in particular the acclaimed 'Brass for Africa - A Musical Spectacular' series, which raised close to £12,000 for various African projects, and Dallas Fort Worth's annual holiday concert, 'Christmas with The Salvation Army'. Andrew was the Founder of Dallas Brass Band and served as President between 2017 and 2023. In 2024 he became the first person to be awarded 'Member Emeritus' by the band, as well as being appointed Composer-in-Residence. He is currently Artistic Advisor to The Illinois Brass Band and held the position of Composer in Residence to GUS Band for several years. He holds a BA Music Degree from Middlesex University, an HND in Graphic Design from the University of Bedfordshire and a Foundation Studies in Art & Design from Central Saint Martins. As a journalist, Andrew has conducted interviews with a number of high-profile musicians, including Stephen Bulla, Bruce Broughton, William Broughton, Philip Cobb, Dr. Stephen Cobb, David Daws, Charlie Green, Chris Jaudes and Bramwell Tovey. His interview with Ray Steadman-Allen also features in the composer's book 'History, Harmony and Humanity'. He is also a featured composer in the book 'The Golden Pen', by Steef Klepke.     Back Keith M. Wilkinson Dr. Keith M. Wilkinson has been successfully directing brass bands for more than 50 years. He commenced regularly conducting brass bands while he was a student at the University Of Manchester and following two enjoyable periods directing Salvation Army bands he entered the highly competitive British brass band contesting scene in 1976. In the following 20 years he enjoyed an enormous amount of success, including having the privilege of directing the first-placed band in more than 40 contests with bands such as GUS, William Davis, and Newtongrange. Since moving to the USA in 1996 he has received invitations to return to Britain and Europe to conduct and, following a recent appearance with Newtongrange Band, one commentator wrote 'a welcome return to the UK of a conductor of proven 24 carat class'. Each of the bands he has directed have established an outstanding reputation for their concert presentations and these have been enhanced by the inclusion of some of Keith's brass band arrangements. Since arriving in the USA he has continued his previous success by conducting the first-placed band on five occasions in different sections of the North American Brass Band Championships (NABBA). He is often in demand to adjudicate at NABBA and other high-profile contests. Keith tried his hand at brass band orchestration while still in high school and this aspect of banding has continued to hold his attention. Some of his arrangements have been used as test pieces at major championships and he has more than 100 published arrangements with publishers in Britain, Switzerland and USA, including BrookWright Music.

    Tom Hutchinson is Principal Cornet of the world's number one ranked band, Cory, having previously been a member of Black Dyke Band. He has won numerous awards and has two solo CDs to his name - ‘In Principal’ and ‘This Way’, and has led Cory Band to multiple major titles. Back Tom Hutchinson Tom Hutchinson began learning the cornet at the age of nine and joined his local brass band, Stannington. As an early teenager he joined Barnsley Building Society Band and quickly ascended to the position of principal cornet. Tom’s first taste of playing ‘top man’ in a championship section band happened a few years later, aged 15, when he joined the Rothwell Temperance Band. During these formative years Tom also played solo cornet with the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain including two courses as Leader. It was the Band’s Associate Conductor, Dr Nicholas Childs, who noticed his talent and later invited him to join the world famous Black Dyke Band. Tom played for ‘Dyke’ on repiano cornet and, at the age of 18, was promoted to tutti solo cornet. He played with Black Dyke for four years, contributing to many contest successes, including the British Open, English National and National Championship of Great Britain titles. After his graduation from the Royal Northern College of Music in 2009 studying under Richard Marshall, Tom was invited to join the mighty Cory Band as principal cornet. After leading the band in his first year to its hat-trick winning European title in 2010, he has since led Cory to four British Open titles, six Welsh regional titles, six Brass in Concert Championship wins, three more European titles, and four National Final wins. A few highlights of his time so far at Cory have been receiving the bands player of the year award on three occasions, releasing his solo CD’s ‘In Principal’ and ‘This Way’, and leading Cory to its historic Grand Slam achievements in 2016 and 2019. As well as playing principal cornet with the Cory Band, he is a Professor of Cornet at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Brass specialist with Ev-entz Music, Cornet tutor for the National Youth Brass Band of Wales and Cornet tutor for the National Children’s Brass Band of Great Britain.     Back Friedrich Gattermann Friedrich Gattermann is a German composer and orchestrator currently based in Potsdam. He is recognized for his ability to seamlessly blend orchestral elements with electronic music, creating a unique sound that bridges contemporary and film music. Friedrich's compositions span both media and concert music, reflecting his diverse influences, which range from film music legends like Bernhard Hermann and Jerry Goldsmith to contemporary composers such as Pēteris Vasks and Volker Bertelmann, as well as jazz artists like Maria Schneider and Vince Mendoza.     Back Gavin Lamplough On leaving the Royal Northern College of Music in 2000, Gavin returned to the Midlands to work as a freelance trumpet player working with orchestras such as the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and in theatres around the UK. Having grown up in The Salvation Army, Gavin has always had a keen interest in brass bands. Gavin is the Principal Cornet of the International Staff Band of The Salvation Army and features as a soloist with the band. He has also performed with renowned bands such as Black Dyke and Brighouse and Rastrick, as well as winning the National Brass Band Championships at the Royal Albert Hall with the Cory Band. As a conductor, Gavin is the Bandmaster of the Birmingham Citadel Band, one of the Salvation Army’s most well-known UK brass bands, and he often works as a Music Theatre MD. He is privileged to serve on the staff of The Salvation Army’s National Music School (UK), where he conducts one of the brass bands and he has also visited other Salvation Army music schools to direct brass bands in the USA and in Europe. Gavin is currently Director of Music at Stafford Grammar School; an independent school in Staffordshire with a fine music department that performs over 35 concerts each year. Previously, he taught in the several independent schools as a Head of Brass as well as at Universities and the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Junior Department. In addition to this, he is also a keen composer and arranger, with his work being printed by several publishers. In addition to this, he is also the Deputy Editor of the SA Band World publication. In 2019 Gavin was awarded the Fellowship of Trinity College London (FTCL) for solo performance on the Cornet. Gavin is a keen sportsman and even finds the time to coach a youth football team in the Staffordshire Under 15 Premier League. Gavin is married to Stephanie and they have four children: Josie, Olivia, Molly and Tilly.
